WELCOME TO COLEY’S CRIB
Coley’s Crib is a home for newborns and infants, whose mothers are unable to care for them at the moment. With the focus on infants surrendered under Minnesota’s Safe Haven Law. The goal is to keep infants safe and in a loving environment while giving mothers more time to make life changing decisions, without fear of prosecution, or fear of losing their baby to the foster system.
Our mission is to end infant abuse, neglect and death; by providing an immediate respite home for newborns and infants under six months old.
Coley’s Crib was named after Mary Francis Coley, also known as “Miss Mary” by her patients. Mary was a black American midwife born August 15th, 1900, in Baker County Georgia. Coley ran a successful business providing a range of birth services. Throughout her career, Coley delivered over 3,000 babies.
Where did the name “Coley’s Crib” Come From?
Dream it
Miss Mary cared for and loved all of her babies. Black or white, it didn’t matter. She dreamt for both her babies and their mothers to have every opportunity any other family would.
Build it
We’re turning that dream into a reality by building a safe place that these babies will be loved and cared for as one of our own until mom is ready.
